Neighbours From Hell? We've Got Your Back

The thing it seems almost no one wanted is upon us, tariffs. Like a suspiciously brown shaken-up snow globe, they’re obscuring normal trading relationships, putting global markets on edge and making life even more expensive than it already was.

Whatever your take on Trump’s tariffs, they certainly focus attention on what is important and for us at We Are Cognitive, that is the close professional connections we have across the world, and especially in Canada. We Are Cognitive’s global client base is precious to us because it means we get to encounter a wide array of viewpoints and industries.

We dearly believe that regardless of tariffs, in fact even more so because of them, the world needs to hear the contributions and ideas of everyone. These are vital as we continue to create a connected world where everyone moves forward, together. And that’s why we love visual thinking. The tools offered by visual thinking allow creative agencies like us to supercharge stories into engaging, memorable, accessible and shareable explainer videos. Through our creative process and translation features, we’re able to design these explainer videos perfectly to reach global audiences.

So, when I see countries like Canada being hit so hard, we feel their pain. Canada and the UK have a close relationship, and we’ve seen that first-hand at We Are Cognitive. We’ve worked with several Canadian companies, such as Wesgroup, Cottage Companion and UnitiWall. We’ve seen the great ideas and messages coming from Canada, and our creative team has used their visual thinking skills to share them far and wide.

The irony of these tariffs is that for all barriers they are creating, they are also bringing us closer together. Canada and the UK have a long history that spans trade, defence and diplomacy to name but a few. Echoing the impacts of the McKinley era tariffs, the latest tariffs are a great reminder of values and history Canada and the UK share.

One of the most important things Canada and the UK share is our outlook on the world as a place for fair trade, both commercial and intellectual. It’s clear to us that this is the best way for the world to collaborate and tackle the existential issues facing us, after all, they don’t stop at borders or change depending on tariffs.

Tariffs shouldn’t stop Canada, or anywhere for that matter, sharing and connecting with the world. We want to draw on We Are Cognitive’s lasting relationship with Canada, and countries around the world to use visual thinking to promote global cooperation and innovation.

The recent tariffs have been described as the biggest challenge to global trade in 100 years by the BBC’s Faisal Islam, and are already beginning to re-write global trading relationships. For us, these tariffs also bring our mission into sharp focus – democratising knowledge. As some barriers grow and changes ripple out, this mission feels even more vital, keeping the world connected.

So, let us all do our part to keep the trade-in ideas flowing and the world talking by collaborating and communicating! For us, that means creating explainer videos that resonate, build consensus and make the complex simple.
