The very definition of disruption
When does disruption become serious? As part of a government crackdown on disruptive protests, this question could soon have a legally binding answer. This is part of an amendment to the Public Order Bill, which aims to give police more powers to tackle ‘highly disruptive and dangerous protests’.
The move has received support from the Metropolitan Police but opposition from Labour. Find out more about this controversial amendment here.
Sympathy for the devil
It could be the desire to engage in activism and issues of our time or to move away from more ‘dogmatic’ religions, but for one reason or another, there has been a 200% increase in the membership of the Global Order of Satan UK in the last five years.
Chaplain Leopold explained, 'this [growth] is particularly amongst younger people who don’t want to be identified as part of a prescriptive dogmatic religion and rather want to identify as their own self-beliefs and self-realisation – which is what Satanism offers.' Read more here.
What goes up must come down?
It’s been an expensive time for energy bills, and while they are going down, one energy firm is predicting they will never be back to pre-pandemic levels.
Anders Opedal, boss of Norwegian energy giant Equinor, told the BBC that is due to the cost of transitioning from fossil fuels to less damaging energy sources. Mr Opedal did have some positive predictions however, ‘I would assume that the energy bills may slightly be higher than in the past but not as volatile and high as we have today.’ Get the full story here.
