About the speaker
Sri Lankan marine biologist Asha de Vos is a pioneer of the study of Blue Whales in the northern Indian Ocean. Her work has led to the population of Sri Lankan Blue Whales being designated as a species in urgent need of conservation research by the International Whaling Commission.
The big issue
Blue whales are the largest known creatures ever to have lived on earth – twice the size of the largest dinosaur. But why are they so incredibly huge? This is what marine biologist Asha de Vos explains in a film that’s as quirky as the blue whale itself. Discover the delicate diet that supports this big feeder and how the tiny size of its prey might be the key to why the blue whale is truly a leviathan.
